Gesso Piece

This is my Gesso piece. I first wrote a story on a poster board of one of my experiences while skiing. Next I split the paper into sections, utilizing balance, and made each section represent a part of my ski day. In some sections I used modeling paste to build texture and then painted over it with acrylic. Other sections were only represented with acrylic paint. In between the sections is areas in which the writing is still visible and these were lightly painted over with brown paint to represent an outdoor theme. The section include textures of icicles, wood, sunlight, ice, and snow. The run I specifically talk about in my story is called "Our Father" and one section illustrate this idea. This section is scored 5F. The materials and media are strong examples of texture and an intended idea. The concept of texture is strongly represented with the use of modeling paste, and balance is strongly represented in the sectioning of the image and the spaced between the centers.

Photomontage

The photomontage's intent was to combined elements of human anatomy with elements of design and other materials. I undertook to input a message against smoking in to my photomontage. I photoshopped a runway model and smoke images to encircle. The model looks sickly and pale and the smoke restrains her in space overcoming her figure and symbolic life. I next made an image of lungs with an exacto knife and card-stock paper. The final piece is in black and white, except for the lungs and lighted area of the cigarette in the model's mouth. This piece speaks against smoking, its harmful effects on health, and its un-glamorous quality. The black and white help to illustrate these ideas along with the images and the color serves to illustrate the focal points. This piece is scored 5D. The work demonstrates a message, innovative and original ideas, and a purpose. The work as well displays concepts of balance in positioning of the objects and color choices.

Architectural Photos

These architectural photos were taken on various vacations and around my neighborhood. On my vacations these photos were taken while touring, and taken when a building, sign, or object stood out from its environment, and in many cases illustrate the nature of the neighborhood or area. They illustrate principles of balance, composition, light, and shading. These photos receive a score of 6D. They illustrate a purpose and intention when developing the composition, and focus on the elements and principles of design, such as balance and unity. They as well demonstrate an understanding of the concepts and are excellent in quality.

Visual Pun

This is my visual pun. It is acrylic on hot press. The visual pun is a "Dandy Lion." The "Dandy" (southern gentleman) is represented in the suit and tie. The Lion is wearing the suit, making him a "Dandy Lion." This piece focused on the object itself, without background images, attempting to only relay the object of the visual pun. This is scored 5B. It displays an original concept and idea for a visual pun. It also effectively demonstrates the pun's concept in the symbols used. Size and proportion are effectively used to illustrate the vocal point. Skillful technique of acrylic paint and use of colors are used to convey these ideas.

Memory Book

France

Boston Fourth of July

This was done for the memory book project, in which I illustrated different memories from my family vacations. In my memory book project I focused on utilizing texture to relay an emotion, demonstrated in my pages from France and Boston. Boston is scored 5B because i demonstrates an original idea, innovative technique was used by blowing paint through a straw, and innovative materials such as paint and beads were combined to form balance. France is scored 5A. This piece utilizes modeling paste in order to illustrate a texture similar to a fresco. It's composition, balance, and colors also effectively illustrate the intended mood.
